From childhood riding bareback on her horse to adulthood training dolphins to perform one and a half somersaults in the air, Chris has always had a passion for animals. This passion led her to a career working with a variety of animals from wolves to lions to birds. Chris was educated in the techniques of positive reinforcement training while enrolled in college in a two-year course in exotic animal training and management. Among the many talented animals Chris has worked with over the years, it was the cockatoo that grabbed her heart and wouldn't let go. She bred a small number of cockatoos for many years. No longer raising them, she now focuses her attention on parrot training and behavior.

Cockatoo Downs is a parrot training facility located on four rural acres in Dallas, Oregon conveniently located twenty minutes from Salem. It is home to twenty cockatoos, half of which have been flight trained by Chris. Parrot training classes, seminars and workshops are offered by Chris throughout the year at Cockatoo Downs. Visitors are always welcome by appointment.
